Southern California Alliance General meeting January 23rd
The continuing process of Reconferencing in the South is in full swing and there is an extremely important meeting for all Coaches and Athletic Directors to attend, at Long Beach City College. The time for the meeting is 11:am. In order to solidify the process there must be a majority of coaches agreeing to the concept to have the new conferences ready to play in the Fall of 2008. There is a time line of April 1, 2007 to meet the COA deadline. Implementation of reps, selection of commissioner, officers, etc. are some of the issues to be resolved.

New Vice President for the South
Joe Early was elected Vice President for the South for 2007 at the December meeting. Joe is the head coach at Palomar College. Welcome Joe, and we know you will do a great job representing the South.
BRENT CARDER RETIRES
After coaching for 37 years as the head coach at Antelope Valley, Brent is retiring and as of this November 2006 is the second (2nd) active winningest coach in community college football in the world, with 187 victories and better than 50% win – loss. That is quite an amazing accomplishment. Only George Rush has more wins than Brent that is still actively coaching. Bremt has been a major force in developing the CCCFCA to where it is, the leader in athletic coaching associations in the United States. He has been admired by those that coach football, athletic directors in the state, and of course all of the players he has coached through the years. His contributions have been many. He served as president of the CCCFCA in 1981 and has been the secretary of the Association since then. Brent’s devotion to football and to the CCCFCA is unconditional as can be seen by all of the years he has loyally spent helping football coaches and the Association move forward and upward. He will continue being involved as the secretary of the CCCFCA and we are thankful for that. He has been one of the rocks of the football coaches Association. The CCCFCA owes Brent a big note of thanks and continued good health.

Revision of the COA Constitution
At the semi annual Coaches association meeting in December it was decided to revise the football sports guide. The coaches Association is addressing the Constitution article page 62, 3.12. 4 This section reads Activities during this three (3) practice opportunity period shall not include contact among players (or blocking sleds, blocking bags, tackling dummies, etc). The rational for deleting blocking bags etc. is that the 3 day conditioning period is to also teach proper blocking and tackling fundamentals without all out contact before the players are coached on the proper techniques and fundamentals. During the regular school year dummies and sleds are used in the football physical education classes and it is not reasonable to take the use of sleds and dummies in the 3 practice opportunity period away during the 3 practice opportunities.
